Aloo Paratha is a bread dish originating from the Indian subcontinent. It is a breakfast dish that originated from the Punjab region. The recipe is one of the most popular breakfast dishes throughout the western, central, and northern regions of India as well as the eastern regions of Pakistan. 

Aloo is the Hindi word for potatoes and Paratha means a stuffed flatbread. So it's also known as flatbread stuffed with potatoes. Although my family loves this paratha.Though there are many variations of stuffed paratha. In my home, gobi paratha and aloo paratha are winners all the time.

Potato Paratha is a vegetarian and vegan recipe( if it is made with oil instead of ghee and butter). It's made with whole wheat flatbread, stuffed with a spicy potato filling. Its main ingredients are  Potato, Wheat flour, butter, ghee. Potato Paratha is enjoyed with yogurt, pickle, and butter.

Aloo Paratha is always my and my son's favorite breakfast and Gobhi paratha is my husband's favorite. I mostly enjoyed it with butter and pickle and sometimes with tea. In fact, Aloo paratha is loved by every family, mainly Panjabi families.

Today I am sharing the most popular Indian paratha recipe. it’s a basic simple recipe, need some boiled mashed potatoes, mixed with spices and then stuffed in the dough. 

Some people like to mash the potatoes and some grate the potatoes, and some people like to make with butter instead of oil. You can make it in any way but, it always gives the good taste no matter how you make it.  I have explained in detail with stepwise photos below.

Ingredients



For Dough

    • 200 gm wheat flour(Aata)
    • 1 tsp oil
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 100 gm water for knead
    • 4 medium-size boil/steam potatoes.

    For Stuff

            • 4 boil/ steam medium size potatoes 🥔
            • 1/2 tsp garam masala
            • 1/2 tsp finely chopped green chili
            • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
            • 1/2 tsp cumin(jeera) powder
            • 1/2 tsp ginger paste
            • 1 tsp finely chopped coriander leaves

              For Paratha

            • 6 tsp oil
            • 100 gm wheat flour

            Directions



            1. Firstly, combine the wheat dough by taking wheat flour, oil, salt, enough water and knead.


               


            2. Further, in a large mixing bowl take 4 boiled potatoes and mashed very well.



            • 3Add mashed potatoes, salt, chopped green chili, ginger paste, cumin powder,garam masala, coriander powder, and coriander leaves. Making sure all the ingredients are mix together.

            • 4. Divide the dough into 2 equal portions, make a ball, and dust with some wheat flour. further, roll a ball in a circle of about 5 inches in diameter.





            5. Place a potato stuffing in the center of the circle.


            6Bring together all the sides in the center and seal tightly.



            7. Roll again into a circle of 5 inches in diameter circle with a little flour.


            8. On a hot tawa place the rolled paratha and cook for a minute until golden brown spot appear.


            9Furthermore, flip the paratha until golden brown.



            10. Brush oil/ghee, flip again once or twice till both the sides are cooked properly.

            11. Repeat the same process with the remaining dough, and stuffing to make more parantha.

            12. Finally, serve hot aloo paratha with butter, sauce, yogurt, or pickle.
