Paneer or Indian cottage cheese is a fresh cheese common in the Indian subcontinent. It is a non-aged, non-melting soft cheese made by curdling milk with a fruit- or vegetable-derived acid, such as lemon juice. Its acid-set form before pressing is called chhena.
Paneer tikka is an Indian appetizer dish made from chunks of paneer marinated in spices and yogurt, then grilled in a tandoor. It is a vegetarian alternative to chicken tikka and other meat dishes. It is a popular dish that is widely available in India and countries with an Indian diaspora. These dishes traditionally go well with mint chutney.
